Betty Elizabeth Rose Lee Martin

Betty Elizabeth Rose Lee Martin, age 95, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 30, 2016. She was born on Aug. 27, 1921 in East Barnet, England to James Lee and Elsie March Lee.

Betty performed wartime service for her native England in World War II. She worked in a factory to help build antennas for Spitfire fighter airplanes. She then volunteered as a nurse. She became acquainted with William C. Martin II of Jackson, Ohio, who served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. They married and Betty came to America as a war bride.

Betty soon became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Betty and Bill proceeded to make their home in Jackson. Betty became an active member of the Christ United Methodist Church, and participated in several ladies’ clubs in town. Bill preceded her in in death on May 7, 2004.

Betty is survived by her two sons, John Lee Martin (Donna S. Martin) and William C. Martin III (Agnes I Martin), a grandson, John I. Martin (Jennifer Seeds Martin), and a great-granddaughter, Audrey Elizabeth Martin. Her brother Peter Lee and sister Joan Male survive her and still reside in England.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Visitation hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 3, two hours prior to the service, from 12 to 2 p.m.
