Belinda J. “Jackie” Carpenter

Belinda J. “Jackie” Carpenter went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 17, 2021 at OSU Medical Center in Columbus.  She was born on Aug. 2, 1950 in Portsmouth, OH to the late Robert and Matty (Locke) Bates. 

Belinda “Jackie” is survived by her husband of 52 years, Frederick Carpenter; two daughters, Rhonda Harrison, Rebekah (Bill) Potter, of Oak Hill; one son, Freddy (Bevelina) Carpenter, of Columbus, OH; five grandchildren, Caleb Potter, Jonathon Harrison,  Keaton Potter, Chloe Potter and A.J. Harrison, all of Oak Hill; very close nephew, Chris and great-nieces, Rylee and Morgan Bates; sisters, Karen Bates, of Lodi, OH, Pamela Bates, of Oak Hill, and Margo (Samuel) Anderson, of Warsaw, IN; brother, Patrick (Vickie) Bates, of Yellow Springs, OH and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Bates, of Bradenton, FL and Michael Bates, of Pataskala, OH. 

Jackie was a bus driver for the Oak Hill Schools for 28 years.  She was an active member of Liberty Baptist Church and enjoyed singing with the choir and Original Sound of Joy.  She loved gardening and cooking for the family, especially spending time with her grandkids, playing games, working puzzles and coloring, etc.  She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

Friends may call Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill.  Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Bucky Shumate officiating.  Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery.  Per CDC guidelines and Governor recommendations, everyone is required to wear a mask and practice proper social distancing protocols.  Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com
