Barbara Snedecor

By | April 5, 2021

Barbara Jane (Davis) Snedecor joined Jesus and her loved ones in heaven on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2021, at the age of 91. She was born May 25, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late William O. and Myrtle (Holcomb) Davis.

Barbara was a 1947 graduate of Hilliard High School and a 1950 graduate of White Cross School of Nursing in Columbus. Throughout her career as a registered nurse she worked in several nursing specialties, including as a nurse in a pediatrician’s office, however her true calling was as a psychiatric nurse.

Although she was a dedicated nurse, her life’s work revolved around her family. She married Carlton B. Snedecor January 6, 1959. They raised two daughters, Toni Snedecor of Bradenton, Florida, and Holly (Snedecor) Gray (Scott Davis) of Jackson, Ohio, both who survive. During her married years, Barbara loved spending time at home with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was the best wife any husband could hope to have, catering to Carlton’s every need and want. Throughout their 58-year union, Barbara loved Carlton with all her heart. She also loved nature and all of God’s creatures. She always preferred a day mowing the lawn or clearing brush to working in the kitchen. She never met a cat or dog she didn’t like and even used her artistic talents to sketch them. She was also a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Wellston.

In addition to her daughters, Barbara is survived by her two grandsons, Drake Gray and Xavier Gray of Jackson, as well as sister-in-law, Barbara Ann Snedecor, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlton, July 22, 2017. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dave Gray; her infant brother Merle; brothers Lowell and Robert Davis; and her sisters Miriam Harp and Verna Ring.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Ridgewood Cemetery in Wellston with Pastor John Pelletier officiating.  For those choosing to attend the service, the family requests that facial coverings be worn at the graveside, along with the practice of social distancing.

The family would like to thank the staff of Jenkins Care Community for taking such good care of Carlton and Barbara. They would also like to give thanks to the hospice workers of National Church Residences for helping Carlton and Barbara navigate their end-of-life journeys.
