Barbara Ellen Callahan, 88, of Oak Street, Jackson, Ohio, died at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at her home.

Barbara was born June 14, 1929 in Perry County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Walter Howdyshell and Zella (Nutter) Howdyshell. On Oct. 23, 1948, Barbara was united in marriage to the love of her life, Myron L. Callahan who preceded her in death Dec. 25, 1985.

Surviving are six sons, Lamar (Kathy) Callahan of Hillsboro, Ohio, William (Molly) Callahan, Michael (Marie) Callahan, James (Tina) Callahan, Lester (Jayne) Callahan and Phillip (Zeke) Glasgow, who she loved like her own, all of Jackson, Ohio; daughter, Elizabeth Callahan of Jackson, Ohio; four sisters, Helen Helser of Zanesville, Ohio, Dorothy (Ronald) Sidwell of Somerset, Ohio, Betty (Jack) Allen of Largo, Florida, and Mary (Bob) Shonkwiler of Kansas; brother, Russell Howdyshell of New Lexington, Ohio, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brothers, Joseph Howdyshell, David Howdyshell, Henson Howdyshell and sister, Nancy Rosella Howdyshell.

Barbara was a homemaker and a member of American Legion Post #81 of Jackson, Jackson First Baptist Church and Wesley United Methodist Church. Barbara enjoyed cake decorating and painting much of her life.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, 28 Harding Ave., Jackson, Ohio under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Goodall officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery, Jackson.

Family will receive friends at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until the service hour on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s honor to Wesley United Methodist Church Youth Group, 1384 Cove Road, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
