Atla Granniss Summers

Atla Granniss Summers, age 92, of Wellston, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Edgewood Manor Nursing Facility in Wellston. He was born July 31, 1920 in Spencer, W. Va., the son of the late Jay Tallmadge Summers and Stacil Edis Damewood Summers.

Granniss was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during WW II. He was a former automotive mechanic and was a member of the Freedom Chapel Church in Wellston.

He is survived by his son, Terry G. Summers of Afton, Tennessee; grandson, Scott Summers of Pueblo, Mexico and great-grandson, Edward Matthew Summers Nunez.

Besides his parents, Granniss was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Mamie Eileen Lavender Summers and his brothers, Marion Eugene Summers and Sturgill Asbury Summers.

Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Perry Brafford officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
