Ada Herd Horton

Ada Herd Horton, age 95, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at the Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. She was born August 15, 1918 in Wellston, Ohio to the late Roy and Ida Mae White Herd.

Ada was a 1936 graduate of Wellston High School. On March 6, 1937, she married Alex A. Horton and became a loving wife and homemaker. Ada was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church where she belonged to the United Methodist Women’s organization and the Wibbler Sunday School Class. She was a former precinct pole worker for the city of Wellston for several years.

Ada is survived by a foster sister, Kathleen Duda of Columbus; two great-nieces, Susan Magyar of Seward, Alaska and Linly Wilson of Mesa, Arizona; great-nephew, Tom Brown of Sciotoville; special foster niece, Cindy Turner of Columbus; special friends and caregivers, Don and Peggy Walton of Wellston, as well as several other nieces, nephews and friends.

Besides her parents, Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Alex, in 1998; three sisters, Robin Brown, Pauline Moorehead and Ruth Widdig; niece, Beverly Mitchell and a nephew, Bob Brown.

In keeping with Ada’s wishes, her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 2, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor Brian Vinson and John Pelletier, CLP officiating. Calling hours will be held one hour prior to the memorial service. Private burial will be in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
