Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith, age 64, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. 

He was born October 21, 1956 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late Ivan Earl Smith and Nellie Mae Brown Smith.  Bruce graduated from Wellston High School in 1975.  He retired from Southern Ohio Coal Company, where he was employed for several years. 

No matter who you were, everyone was always important to Bruce. He always wanted to know all about you and your life story. Throughout his life, Bruce was active in numerous organizations, including Black Diamond Lodge #538 F&AM, the Wellston Lions Club, Jackson County Bowhunter’s Club, Fairgreens Country Club, and he was an honorary life member of the Jackson County Fair Board. 

Bruce was always ready to have a good time with family and friends. He loved taking Sunday afternoon drives long enough to just get lost!  He enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, archery, golfing and gun hunting, and took great pride in mowing the grass.  Bruce was a diehard Wellston Golden Rockets fan who loved watching his #16 on the football field. 

He is survived by his wife, Donna G. Conn Smith; children, Shane Smith, and his wife, Rayanna of Wellston, Corey Smith, and his wife, Corrinne of Wellston, Misty Stump (Bill Sparks) of Columbus and Amber Keffer of Columbus; grandchildren, Mackensie, Hunter, Sophia, Shelby, Quinn, Chenede, Calleigha, Casen, Victoria, Patience, Aaron, Damion, Nicole and Julia; siblings, Earlma Nelson (Harold) of Jackson, Randy Smith of Florida, Dick Smith of Kentucky and Debbie Bishop of Wellston; as well as several nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Jeremy Smith and Adam Smith. 

Besides his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his siblings: Isabel Smith, Sonny Smith, Pam West, Gene Smith, Pauline Davis, Greg Smith and Shirley Smith. 

Calling hours will be Saturday, April 10, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Masonic service will be held at 8 p.m. The funeral service will be Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Rob Ervin Officiating.  Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery.  For those choosing to attend the services, facial coverings are required inside the building along with the practice of social distancing.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at
