Virginia S. (Leedy) Stiffler

Virginia S. (Leedy) Stiffler, age 103, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2014 at the home of her daughter. She was born in Pulaski, Virginia, on November 30, 1910, the Daughter of the late Stuart and Della Umberger Leedy. She was married on June 28, 1941 to Norman Stiffler.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman in 1968, brother, Sherman Leedy and a grandson, Chris Williams in 1996.

Virginia graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1929. She was a teacher for many years having taught at Franklin and South Street Schools. She touched many people and made better for the students she taught. She retired in 1972. She was an active member of the Jackson Christian Church serving as President of the Women’s Fellowship for ten years. She was also a member of the Book Review Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. After she retired, she enjoyed taking many bus tours with the Senior Citizens all across the United States.

She also enjoyed line dancing well into her 80’s and drove to church until she was 97. She is also survived by daughter, Carol (Robert) Williams of Wellston; brother, Willard (Jaunita) Leedy of Georgia; granddaughters; Tami (Rob) Norman of Jackson and Angela (James) Toki of Plain City, Ohio, great-grandchildren: Ashley and DJ Norman of Jackson, beloved friend; Vivian poole and her faithful cat, Tigger.

The family wishes to extend thanks to Holzer Hospice and all her caregivers. Virginia was a faithful Christian woman who served God all of her life. Although she will be sadly missed by her family and many friends, she has gone home to be with her Lord, her husband and grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, at 11 a.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Strange officiating with burial to follow in the Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at the funeral home.
