Jerry L. Scarbury

Jerry L. Scarbury, age 74 of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Monday, March 24, 2014 at his home. He was born November 29, 1939 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Lincoln and Freda (Bowen) Scarbury.

He worked as a police officer as well as auxiliary for the Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department from the early 60s to the late 70s. He was a PUCO officer in the 80s and worked at Chun-King, Davis Brickyard, Jisco Pig Iron, and Rumpke; as well as operating American Lube Center from 1987 thru 1998. He was also a supervisor over the work program at JVAC/Hope Haven.

Jerry coached the Rinky Dink Football Little Vikings in the late 60s through the 70s, coaching many of Jackson’s athletes. He was also a member of the Black Diamond Masonic Lodge #0538 of Wellston, Ohio, and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and the Knights of Pythius. Along with his wife, he was past president of Jackson High School Band Boosters. He drove the bus for the Hope Haven Trotters. He was also an avid football fan and avid fisherman.

He is survived by daughters, Luwana (Bill) Holzapfel of Wellston, Ohio, Sherry (Tim) Boyd of Texas, and Tonda (Arthur) Hamilton of Jackson, Ohio; grandchildren, Wm. Zachary Holzapfel, Zane Holzapfel, and Jennifer Dotson; great-grandchildren, Piper Dotson, Wyatt Dotson, and Aniyah Holzapfel; sisters, Debbie (David) Hannah and Beverly (Ralph) Coyle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Preceding him in death in addition to his parents was his wife, Nancy “Cookie”” Scarbury; his mother-in-law, Mary Brannan; and step-mother, Doris Scarbury.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson, Ohio. A service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Bruce Hines and Father Maroon officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery of Jackson, Ohio.
