Virgilene S. Shook

Virgilene S. Shook, age 75, of Coalton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at the Holzer Medical Center ER in Jackson, Ohio. She was born Feb. 14, 1942 in Wellston, Ohio, daughter of the late Dallas Gerald Leach, Sr. and Sarah Augusta Wills Leach.

Virgilene graduated with the Class of 1959 from Wellston High School and then continued her education by attending Columbus Business College, where she earned a degree in accounting. Virgilene retired from the Milton Banking Company in Wellston, where she was employed for over 40 years. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Wellston Church of the Nazarene, and in earlier years, Virgilene was an avid bowler. In recent years, Virgilene was a dedicated and loving caregiver to her sister and brother-in-law, Mona and Bill Dobbins.

She is survived by her children, Larry “Pete” Patrick, Jr. (Kristy) of Wellston, John Patrick (Louetta) of Winchester, Va., and Carl “Rusty” Patrick (Mary) of Wheelersburg; step-daughter, Marsha Shook Lewis (Michael) of Jackson; grandchildren, Hilary Nichols (Bill) of Jackson, Clint Patrick of Wellston, Jeremy Scott of Wellston, Lacey McLin (Chris) of Wellston, Whitney Gill (Tyler) of Jackson, Ariel Patrick of Jackson, Larry Alan Patrick of Wheelersburg, Drew McKinney of Wheelersburg, and Brent Lewis of Jackson; sister, Mona Dobbins of Jackson; brothers, Dallas Leach, Jr. (Carolyn) of Wellston and Dewey Leach (Lucretia) of Grove City; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Leach and Delores Leach, both of Wellston; close friend and father of her children, Larry Patrick, Sr. of Wellston, along with six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many special and close friends.

Besides her parents, Virgilene was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Shook; brothers, Frank Leach, Robert Leach, and Clarence “Rooster” Leach; sister, Helen Salts (Lawrence); infant siblings, John and Jackson; and brother-in-law, Bill Dobbins.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
