Ruth Stanton-West

By | November 25, 2014

Ruth Stanton West, of Stuart, Florida, passed away Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Parkway Health and Rehabilitation Center in Stuart, following a long illness. Born to Leo J. and Elsie Rowe Stanton of Hamden, Ohio, Ruth peacefully left this world just three days shy of her 94th birthday – a milestone about which she would have conversely boasted and bemoaned.

A graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School and Wellston High School, Ruth spent many years working for J. C. Penney in Columbus as an office manager. Later, she struck out on her own as a real estate agent. When she retired, Ruth enjoyed the company of her husband, Bob, and a succession of poodles, all named Muffy. She also loved to travel, tend to her orchids and browse thrift stores. For a time, she also operated her own thrift shop in Wellston.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Robert E. West; sisters, Mary Stanton Crossin and Elizabeth (Bettie) Stanton Campbell; and two brothers, William T. Stanton and Robert P. Stanton, M.D.

She is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends who will lovingly remember her genuine personality; her sense of humor, style and grace; and her joy for life.

Memorial gifts may be made locally to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School at 227 South New York Avenue, Wellston, OH 45692.

A memorial service will be held in Wellston at a later date. Interment will occur at Hamden Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Huntley & Cremeens Funeral Home of Wellston.
