Ruth (Lahrmer) Shaner

Ruth (Lahrmer) Shaner, age 91, passed away July 2, 2019 at Holzer Medical Center of Gallipolis, Ohio.  She was born March 3, 1928, in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Ernest and Rosa (Strickland) Lahrmer.  She spent the majority of her life in Jackson County.

On Dec. 24, 1948, Ruth married Paul H. Shaner, who preceded her in death.  They lived in Franklin County before moving to their farm in Jackson County in 1963.  Here they raised livestock, crops, flowers, and a plentiful garden for the family.  Also, preceding her in death was her only son, Raymond Shaner; son-in-law, Jerry Stickley; brothers, Virgil, Foster, and Estel Lahrmer; and sisters, Garnet Schlueb and Doris Ogle.

Ruth is survived by four daughters: Cathy (Charlie) Keith of Kerens, Texas, Donna (Les) Young of Rio Grande, Ohio, Susan (Roger) Morgan of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Anita Stickley of Jackson, Ohio; daughter-in- law, Linda Shaner of Oak Hill, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Thelma Naylor of Lancaster, Ohio,  Arnold Lahrmer of Ashville, Ohio, Marilyn Morrison of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, Roger Lahrmer of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Morris Lahrmer of Mooresboro, North Carolina, Carol Blackburn of Oak Hill, Ohio, and Mary Jaycox of Kings Mountain, North Carolina.

Ruth had a passion for quilting and crocheting and produced some gorgeous quilts, afghans, and doilies.  Those who were recipients of her handiwork were the lucky ones.  She loved reading books and newspapers and clipping articles of local history.

Friends and family may call on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
