Rosalene B. Harkins

Rosalene B. Harkins, 85, of McArthur, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at Traditions of Chillicothe. She was born May 24, 1927 in Vinton County, daughter of the late George Elbert and Bessie Brooks Chesser. Rosalene was the widow of the late Glen W. Harkins. She was a former legal secretary for John Beckley and Phillip Rose and formerly worked at the City Loan Company in McArthur. Rosalene was a member of Harkins Chapel Church and Putnam Chapel Church. She loved and was loved by her family and many others. She was an extraordinary lady, tough as nails and fragile as a butterfly.

She is survived by her son, Michael (Geneva) Harkins of McArthur; daughter, Beverly (Phil Stevens) Harper of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Bethany Thompson, Chuck Harper, Teresa Hill and Lorie Brown; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a sister, Esther Bare of Logan.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rosalene was preceded in death by her brothers, Marvin and Charles Chesser and sisters, Anabelle Sloma, June Dixon and Florence Ward.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
