Romey M. Spires

By | January 8, 2018

Romey M. Spires, 57, of Wellston, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio. He was born on July 26, 1960, in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late George Romey Spires and Betty Ruth (Cottrill) Spires.

Romey retired from KoKosing Construction after many years of service. He was a member of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local 423 in Columbus. He was a very social individual, very outgoing and friendly. He never met a stranger and would quite literally give you the shirt off his back if needed… just ask about his niece, Shayna’s wedding! He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Ohio State Buckeye football, and westerns. An occasional golfer, Romey also enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets. Although he never hit the “big one,” his life was rich with his loving family and many friends. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sister, Cheryl (Ray) Norton; brother, Marion (Bobbette) Spires; nieces, Shayna (Shawn) Caldwell, Whitney Norton (Kevan Johnson), Lesley Spires, Destiny Clemons, and Daycee Clemons; great-nieces, Brooklyn, Alexis, and Isabella Caldwell; half-sister, Mary Ellen (Homer) Duda; “adoptive son,” Justin Hamric; special friend, Robin Fields and her family; as well as many other friends and acquaintances.

In addition to his parents, Romey was preceded in death by half-sisters, Betty Weis and Patricia Ruger.

A funeral service celebrating Romey’s life will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, in the chapel of R.M. Williams Funeral Service, 120 West Broadway St., Wellston, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The family wishes to thank all those who helped care for Romey in recent months, especially the staff at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson.
