Roberta Mae Gettles Huffman

Roberta Mae Gettles Huffman, 90, of Wellston, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston.  She was born Oct. 10, 1928 in Wellston to the late Carl and Eula Fisher Gettles.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Vaughn Huffman, and one son, Russ Bethel. 

Roberta is survived by three children:  Neysa Jill (Bob) Kemp, John (Carolyn) Bethel and Jack (Bonny) Huffman, all of Wellston; one daughter-in-law, Georgeann Bethel of New Lexington, Ohio;  a brother, Jim (Donna) Gettles and a sister, Mary Lou Montgomery, both of Wellston; 10 grandchildren: Robin (Mike) Murray, Ben (Amy) Bethel, Dan Bethel, Robbie (Julie) Kemp, Matt (Toni) Kemp, Chris (Stephanie) Bethel, Treavor Bethel,  Ryan Bethel, Erin-Huffman (Cory) Richard, Julie (Vince) Jenkins; and 19 great-grandchildren.  While these immediate family members are named, there are so many others: devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

  Roberta graduated from Wellston High School in 1946 where she was a member of the marching band and a cheerleader. Her career spanned seven decades and began at the family-owned Gettles Grocery and Hardware Store before she became the local Manager for The Columbus Citizen-Journal.  She then worked at Wellston Aerosol, The Ohio State University County Extension Agency and General Telephone Company before starting Roberta Huffman Realty in 1986. Roberta sold real estate into her mid-80s.

  Roberta was a lifelong member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church and recently attended Hope United Methodist Church.  She was a member of Eastern Star and Fairgreens Country Club.

  Roberta spent her winters in North Fort Myers Beach for nearly 25 years.  She was an avid golfer and enjoyed competing in golf tournaments.  She loved sporting events and spent countless hours at her grandchildren and great- grandchildren’s activities.

  Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor  Susan Keeton officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
