Pauline Grim Johnson

Pauline Grim Johnson, age 91, of Wellston, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 26, 2014 at her home, while doing what she loved to do; working in her flower garden. She was born September 26, 1922 in Shade, Ohio to the late George W. Grim and Edith Fulton Grim. 

Pauline graduated from Shade High School, where she was the valedictorian of the class of 1939. She then went on to attend Ohio University and the Marietta Business College. Pauline was employed for 12 years by the State of Ohio at the Athens County Welfare Department. She married Oryn G. Johnson in 1946, following his service in World War II. Upon Oryn’s graduation from Ohio University, and spending a few years of living in Huntington, W. Va., Oryn and Pauline returned to Ohio and purchased the Wellston Lumber Inc., which they operated for 42 years. 

Pauline was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wellston; the Southern Hills Arts Council; Fairgreens Country Club, where she was an avid golfer for 50 years; Sigma Phi Gamma; Wellston Bridge Club; lifetime member of the Shade Community Center, as well as numerous other business and civic organizations in the past years. She loved and enjoyed golfing, playing bridge with her lady friends, cooking, sewing, gardening and working in her yard, and spending time with her many friends and family members. 

Pauline is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Glenna Grim of Athens; sister-in-law, Marilyn Grim of Phoenix, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she was very fond of. 

Besides her parents, Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Oryn G. Johnson; brother, Sam Grim, and sister, Helen Leifheit Carper. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the many friends of Pauline’s who were so helpful in her time of need. 

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier, CLP officiating. Burial will follow in the Burson Cemetery in Shade, Ohio.
