Orville Hicks, Jr.

Orville Hicks, Jr., age 83, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on March 8, 1933 in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Orville Hicks, Sr. and Rachael (Coffey) Hicks.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Spence (Sam) Keck, Catherine (Scott) Morningstar, Ed Spence, Lisa (Mike) Paniccia, Barbara (Jack) Wenger and Matthew Hicks; sister, Juanita (Mike) Schmeltzer; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carole M. Hicks, whom he was deeply devoted to; infant son, John David Hicks; son, Michael Hicks and daughter, Joyce Decker; brothers, Charlie Hicks, Dennis Hicks and Buster Hicks; and sisters, Eleanora Arthurs, Viola Baker, Hazel Tillis, Ethel Dempsey, Bernice Hollis and Minnie Hicks.

Orville was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a devoted Christian and attended Memorial Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio, Faith Baptist Church, Jackson, Ohio and Grace Baptist Church in Wellston, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 17 at 1 p.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Springbank Cemetery, Yellowbud, Ross County, Ohio. Friends may call at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 16, from 4 to 8 p.m.
