Ohio Genealogical Society Publications Merger

By | August 17, 2012

Good news! No more separate publications to buy! Beginning in 2013, Ohio Records and Pioneer Families (ORPF) and Ohio Civil War Genealogy Journal (OCWGJ) will be merging with OGS Quarterly. To accommodate contents from ORPF and OCWGJ, OGS Quarterly is being increased in size and will include all types of material from the earliest settlers in Ohio to the year 1940. All OGS memberships will continue to include OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News. In addition to the larger OGS Quarterly, all OGS Members will have access to the Ohio Civil War Genealogy Center (OCWGC) and the new Article Archives on the OGS Website along with all the information, news and material currently available.

ORPF and/or OCWGJ OGS Members/Subscribers whose subscriptions run out after 31 Dec 2012 will have their memberships extended one quarter per quarterly issue that they would have received in 2013.

ORPF and/or OCWGJ Subscribers (non-OGS Members) whose subscriptions run out after 31 Dec 2012 will receive OGS Quarterly in place of ORPF and/or OCWGJ until their subscriptions run out. At that time, it is our sincere hope that all non-OGS Subscribers will join OGS in order to take full advantage of what OGS has to offer including access to the OGS Website, OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News.

Ohio Genealogy News will not be affected by the merger of ORPF and OCWGJ with OGS Quarterly.

Eric Johnson, OGS VP of Member Services, has appointed Susan Lee as Senior Editor of the Publications Committee. At this time, she is editing OGS Quarterly and co-editing OCWGJ until the merger takes place. She will remain OGS Quarterly Editor with Laurel Sheppard, current ORPF Editor, as OGS Quarterly Assistant Editor. Daniel Reigle will be stepping down as OCWGJ Co-Editor into OGS Quarterly Civil War Contributing Editor and continue to add databases and articles on OCWGC. Sunny Morton will continue as the Ohio Genealogy News Editor. At a later date, more Contributing Editors will be announced.

OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News: Going Digital in 2013!

Beginning in 2013, OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News are going digital. Both will be accessible on the OGS Website. Those who still want to receive their issues in paper format will be able to do so, as always.

Beginning with the 2013 Membership renewal, members will need to make a choice to receive OGS Quarterly or Ohio Genealogy News digitally or through the mail in paper format. If you chose digital, please be sure to include you e-mail address for notification of new issues online.

OGS Life Members will need to contact OGS before 2013 as to their choice of digital or paper format for both OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News.

As each issue of OGS Quarterly and Ohio Genealogy News becomes available online, a notice will appear on the website indicating that it is available to read. Notification will also be sent out by e-mail so be sure OGS has your current e-mail address.
