Norma Jeanette McWhorter

Norma Jeanette McWhorter, age 84, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020, at the Four Winds Community in Jackson, Ohio.  She was born Aug. 6, 1935 in Wellston, Ohio to the late John L. Sullivan Thacker and Hazel Marie McKinniss Thacker. 

Jeanette was the Salutatorian of the 1953 graduating class at Wellston High School.  She retired from Kuppenheimer Manufacturing in Wellston, where she was employed for 25 years.  Jeanette loved being outdoors, where she enjoyed gardening, mowing the grass, working in the yard, and watching the birds and squirrels.  In years past, she also enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and taking long car rides with her husband, Rich.  Jeanette attended Freedom Chapel Church in Wellston, and was a member of the former Hamden Church of the Nazarene, where she was church secretary/treasurer for over 50 years. 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Randy Graman of McArthur; grandchildren, Zachary Graman of Athens and Heather Graman of Chillicothe; sister, Lenora Wilcox of Chillicothe; along with several nieces and nephews. 

Besides her parents, Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Richard E. “Rich” McWhorter in 2018; sisters, Doris Mather, Dorothy Barnett, and Avonelle Thacker; and brothers, Harry, Howard, Harold, Homer, and Johnny Thacker. 

Calling hours will be Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.  Funeral service will be Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Perry Brafford officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
