Mary (Lewis) Thornton

Mary (Lewis) Thornton, age 86, of Jackson, Ohio, passed peacefully away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Holzer Assisted Living in Jackson. She was born Jan. 26, 1932 in Thurman, Ohio to the late Edward and Zelma Lewis.

She is survived by daughters, Judi Booth (Howard Houchin) of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and Lynn (Billy) Starkey of Jackson, Ohio; sisters, Irene Lloyd of Jackson, Ohio and Winnie (Larry) Ghearing of Circleville, Ohio; grandchildren: BJ (Priscilla) Starkey, Kristen (Jake) Taylor, and Nick (Lana) Starkey; and five loving great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Thornton in 2012; sisters, Sarah Lane and Jennie Myers; and brother, Edward Lewis.

Mary was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and a past member of the Wagon Wheelers Square Dance Club. She also proudly served as a volunteer at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio for numerous years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Dave Roach and Pastor Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
