Mary L. Johnston

Mary L. Johnston, age 94, of Wellston, passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017 at Four Winds Nursing Facility in Jackson. She was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Lenawee County, Michigan to the late Charles Raymond “R.C.” Johnston and Leila Mae Powell Johnston.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of McArthur High School. She retired from Hercules Trouser Company in Wellston where she was a seamstress for over 40 years. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wellston. She enjoyed listening to and watching the Cincinnati Reds, the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mary was always very vocal about her team’s performance and her family delighted in hearing her game analysis following every game. She also loved her dogs, working out in her yard and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her brother, Rex Johnston of Wellston, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Following the untimely death of her sister, Sue, Mary became a second mother to the Patterson children.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by eight of her nine siblings; Donald Johnston, Ronald Johnston, Lewis Johnston, Mac Johnston, Eileen Littlejohn, Sue Patterson, Jack Johnston, and infant sibling, Hilah May Johnston.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, her body was cremated. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. A Celebration of Life service will follow the visitation at 8 p.m. with Pastor David Kelly officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
