Marvin Lee Bales, Sr.

Marvin Lee Bales, Sr., age 91, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at the V.A. Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born Oct. 13, 1927 in Garfield County, Oklahoma, the son of the late Lester Lee Bales and Faye Barton Bales.

Marvin was a veteran of the United States Navy who served during WW II. He was a former dairy farmer and a former electrician, who enjoyed woodworking and fishing in his spare time. Marvin was a faithful Christian man who enjoyed attending church services, no matter where that might be. He was a member of the Wellston Church of God and, in recent years, attended the Oak Hill Nazarene Church with family.

Marvin is survived by his children, Faye Williams of Vinton, Marvin Bales, Jr. of North Carolina, Paul Bales of Lancaster, Michael Bales of South Carolina, and Dwayne Bales of Jackson; step-children, Bonnie Lindsey of Chillicothe, Donald Sheets, Jr. of Londonderry, Keith Sheets of Londonderry, Lisa Current of McArthur, and Roy Sheets of McArthur; sister, Charylene Skaggs of Cheshire; brothers, Bill Bales of West Virginia and Dean Bales of Arizona; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Bales; second wife, Ireda Bales; third wife, Anna Sheets Bales; daughter, Sharon Banks; one sister and several brothers.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Benson officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Cemetery.
