Martha Jean (Delaney) Knigge

Martha Jean (Delaney) Knigge, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, November 30, 2017. She just celebrated her 90th birthday in August. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio on August 13, 1927 to the late Harry H. and Violet M. (Wheeler) Delaney. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

She, along with her son, Roger B. Smith and parents, moved to Oak Hill, Ohio in 1950, where she met her loving husband, Bernard G. Knigge and was married on April 18, 1956. Bernard preceded her in death on February 27, 2009.

“Jean”, as she was known by her friends, leaves a son, Roger B. Smith and his wife Constance (Morris), of South Webster; a daughter, Donna J. Knigge and Carolyn Knigge (Terry Leonard Sr.), both of Oak Hill; three grandchildren, Michael S. (Angel Pratt) Smith, Cynthia L. (Keith McCoy), both of Mercer, PA and Matthew A. (Cassandra Huber), both of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Cody, Colton (Jessica), Caleb Smith, Hannah, Leah, Josiah, Micah and Moriah McCoy, of Mercer, PA; two great great granddaughters, Nora Evelyn Smith and Addison (Addi) Smith and one lifelong friend, Florence Carli, of Erie, PA.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one great granddaughter, Heaven Leigh Smith.

She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church for many, many years. She held several positions in her class.

She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends for her loving kindness and wit. She was real delight to know. She was a wonderful loving wife and mother.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Bethel Cemetery with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. No calling hours will be observed.
