Joy Lee (Sturgill) Stringer

Joy Lee (Sturgill) Stringer, age 86, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Four Winds Community Center in Jackson. She was born January 25, 1926 in Hunnewell, Kentucky, to Melvin and Esther Mae (Picklesimer) Sturgill.

Joy was a member of Moriah Presbyterian Church of Oak Hill and the Oak Hill Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James Lenwood Stringer; daughters, Teresa (Charles) Hampton, of Patriot, Ohio, Karen (Gary) Jones, of Oak Hill; son, John (Mary) Stringer, of Columbus; grandchildren, Joshua Preston, Timothy, Bethany, and Abby Jones; great-grandson, Peyton Preston; brothers, Melvin and Paul (Betty) Sturgill, of Kentucky; and sisters, Mary Jane Pennington, of California and Roberta Jeanne (Walter) Perdue, of Ashland, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by sisters, Opal Marie Slone, Thelma Ione Scott, Gloria (Jo) Cline, Anita Sturgill; and brother, Gary Keith Sturgill.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill with Rev Carson Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, January 1, 2013 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
