John A. Simpson

John A. Simpson, 87, of Jackson Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 67 years, Doris (Merrick) Simpson; his sons, Michael (Sharon) Simpson, of Oak Hill, Timothy Simpson, of Jackson and one daughter, Lisa Fletcher, of St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother, Amos (Dottie) Simpson, of St. Marys Georgia; one sister, Linda (Jerry) Dulaney, Parkersburg, West Virginia. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

John was born June 20, 1930 in Jackson, Ohio to the late Francis and Janie Simpson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by five brothers, James, Walter, Howard, Paul, Everette Simpson; three sisters, Dorothy Rouse, Mary Scott and Ester Boyd and one son-in-law, Phillip Fletcher.

John served in the United States Marine Corp for three years. He then worked for Purina Feed Store for 20 years, while working for at the feed store, he put himself through college earning a master’s degree in education and went on to teach at Coalton Elementary for thirty and a half years before retiring. He was a longtime member of the Apostolic Faith and attended Life Source Church.

Friends may call Monday, July 31, 2017 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson from 5-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the funeral home with Rev.
