Jerry Hayes Walters

Jerry Hayes Walters, 62, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on Saturday evening May 12, 2018, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on Oct. 17, 1955, to the late Oscar H. Walters and Barbara Lee (Fain) Walters McWhorter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Miller; mother; daughters, Mindy (Jason) Rauber and Brooke (Todd) Smith; grandchildren, Braiden and Makayla Rauber; and stepchildren, Faith and Austin Miller. Also surviving are siblings, Cathy Walters, Rick (Marsha) Walters, Don (Rose) Walters, and Mark (Debbie) Walters; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Jeremy Paul Walters.

He graduated from Jackson High School and was a lifelong resident of Jackson. He worked for the County Highway Department for 40 years, serving as Highway Superintendent for almost 30 years. He was a long-time member of the Elks Lodge. He loved going to the races, especially in Indianapolis, and playing music with friends. He even wrote his own songs and was very artistic. He had a profound effect on many lives and those that knew him will never forget him.

Friends may call to celebrate Jerry’s life on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 11 a.m. at said funeral home with Pastor Linda Plummer officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
