Howard Hughes, age 79, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Four Winds Nursing Facility. He was born in Jackson County, Ohio on December 2, 1936.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bessie (Whaley) Hughes; wife, Virginia (Martin) Hughes; brother, William Frank Hughes; sister, Betty Jane Ewing and two stepchildren, Terry and David Whaley.

He is survived by six stepchildren: Diana (Joe) Rhodes of West Virginia, Russell Whaley of Columbus, Brenda (Roger) Rafferty of Wellston, Cindy (Mike) Perkins of Columbus, Kevin (Kathy) Whaley of Greenville, Ohio and Sue Fillinger of Waverly; two sisters, Mary Alice Malone and Phyllis V. Rowland; 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Charlene Ewing, along with many other nieces and nephews and special friends, Fred and Norma Riegel.

Howard was a retired truck driver and liked to hunt, fish and go to car races.

Friends will be received at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jack Hughes officiating.
