Herbert Eugene Ward

Herbert Eugene Ward, age 80, of Greenville, SC, and a former resident of Wellston, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016 at his home. Born June 25, 1935 in Dundas, Ohio, he was the son of the late Oscar and Ora Martin Ward. He graduated from McArthur High School in 1953 and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Herb, a mechanical engineer, was retired from Flour Daniel. He married Iris Ann Smith on April 21, 1957 in Wellston, Ohio. They moved to Greenville, SC in 1977, and there, they enjoyed their lives for approximately 40 years. Herb had a very loving personality and a compassionate heart for his family and friends. He was loved by all that knew him.

Surviving, in addition to Iris, his wife of 59 years, are sons, J. Brian Ward and wife, Tara, of Greensboro, NC and Todd A. Ward and wife, Angie, of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Brittany Boyd and husband, Joshua of Greenville, SC and Elizabeth and Delaney Ward of Greensboro, NC; great-grandson, James Thomas Boyd of Greenville, SC; brother, Clarence Ward and wife, Jean, of McArthur; sisters, Margaret Frederick and husband Wes, of Columbus, and Laura Ankrom and husband, Willis, of Allensville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Herb was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar Ward, Jr., Max Ward, Stephen Ward and Harry Ward, and sisters, Beverly Ward and Kathleen Collins.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wesley Frederick officiating.
