Harry Rodney Chafin

Harry Rodney Chafin, age 66, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019, at Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio. He was born Nov. 23, 1952 in Williamson, West Virginia, son of the late Harry Charles Chafin and Nell Mitchell Chafin.

Rodney retired following 30 years of working as a coal miner for Southern Ohio Coal Company. He was an enthusiastic fan of Cincinnati Reds baseball and Marshall University football. He also enjoyed playing cards, as well as spending time on his porch. Rodney was a member of the Sons of The American Legion in Wellston. 

He is survived by his sons, Michael Chafin and David Chafin, both of Wellston; granddaughter, Reaghann Folden of Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Cam and Wendell Lusk of Wellston; brother and sister-in-law, John and Nancy Chafin of Cincinnati; special friend, Chelsie Azbell of Wellston; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Besides his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by brother, Phillip Mitchell; and sister, Patricia Chafin.

In keeping with Rodney’s wishes, his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 21, 2019, at 6 p.m. at McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston with Pastor Susan Keeton officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions in Rodney’s name be given to Sons of The American Legion, 1001 South Pennsylvania Avenue, Wellston, Ohio 45692. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.mcwilliams-funeralhome.com
