Grant Elmo Adkins, 76, of Oak Hill, passed away Thursday March 8, 2012 at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Oak Hill native was born May 7, 1935 the son of the late Charles Adkins and Alma Lucille Leonard Adkins. He was the husband of Ruth Gillispie Adkins who survives.Grant attended Oak Hill School and was a Corporal with U.S.Army. He was a retired Mantience Director with the Oak Hill Schools after 38 years of service and of the Baptist faith.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Moore and Faye Adkins.In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Adkins Williams, and her husband, Todd of Charlotte, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas E. Adkins and his wife, Callie of Napoleon, OH; a grandson, Grant D. Adkins; two granddaughters, Emily J. Adkins and Camryn Williams; two brothers, Douglas Adkins and Lonnie Adkins both of Oak Hill, OH; three sisters, Doris Puckett of Oak Hill, OH, Phyllis Cooper of Jackson, OH and Edith Reese of Columbus, OH.Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday March 12, 2012 at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Jackson County, Ohio with Rev. Lenny Campbell officiating. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 South Seventh Street, Ironton, Ohio is in charge of the arrangements.
