Gilbert Wayne Rice, age 95, of Jackson passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at the Jenkins Community Care Facility in Wellston. He was born on Jan. 25, 1923 in Jackson, Ohio to the late William Gilbert Rice and Florence (Gilson) Rice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Helen B. (Fisher) Rice and his sister, Betty Walke. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a WW II Army veteran.
Wayne is survived by his son, Kevin (Julia) Rice; his daughter, Kathie (Sam) Stevenson; his five grandchildren: David (Pam) Stevenson, Melissa (Troy) Kingrey, Andy (Susan) Rice, Amy (Brent) Pieper and Mark (Courtney) Rice; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Chris Wiseman officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 p.m. up until the time of the service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery with military graveside services by the Jackson Chapter 45 Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
