Gerald Nelson fought for as long as he could to stay with his family, until the Lord called him home, April 7, 2019 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Gerald was born on March 16, 1932 to the late, William Loar and Sarah Elizabeth Nelson of Jackson, Ohio. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Diane Nelson.
Gerald was a hard worker all of his life, and he retired after 25 years from the Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant. He was an avid race car fan and OSU Buckeye fan. Gerald was the most giving man, with a huge heart and always the jokester. He was a very loving husband, devoted father and grandfather as well as a friend.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jerri Zimmerman Nelson; daughter, Susan Nelson Ridge of Jackson, Ohio; and sons: Danny Nelson of Jackson, Ohio, Kevin (Lisa) Nelson of Avon Lake, Ohio, Chad (Kerry) Jenkins of Jackson, Ohio and Ryan (Kim) Jenkins of Pickerington, Ohio. Also, grandchildren: Kayla Nelson of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Meredith (Mitch) Kneeskern of Findlay, Ohio, Payton and Tyler Nelson of Avon Lake, Ohio, Brent and Taylor Jarvis of Jackson, Ohio, Geoffrey and Stephen Jenkins of Jackson, Ohio, Zachary and Andrew Jenkins of Pickerington, Ohio and Ayla Peden of Waverly, Ohio; a twin brother, Harold (Earlma) Nelson; sister, Wanda (Jerry) Smith of Jackson, Ohio and brother, Jim Waites from Tupelo, Mississippi. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Boggs officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home.
