Gerald Leo Byers

Gerald Leo Byers, 93, of Londonderry, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born July 8, 1925 in Jackson County, Ohio, son of the late Edward Byers and Una Remy Goodrich. Gerald was married for 73 years to Virginia Mae Herron Byers, who survives.

He formerly worked for Engle Construction and retired from Great Lakes Construction. Gerald was a WW II Navy Veteran, a member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299 and is also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed outdoor activities, hunting, fishing, gardening and loved to cook, bowl, and family activities.

Along with his wife Virginia, he is survived by his son, James L. “Jim” (Corrine) Byers of Stoutsville; daughter, Connie S. Harrod of Londonderry; grandchildren, Natalie and Ashley Harrod, both of Londonderry and great-grandchildren, Kaley (Daniel) Thacker and Kaleb Haynes, both of Londonderry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, William E. Harrod and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Vinton County, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
