George Mercer, age 82, of Glen Roy, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was born in Jackson County on Sept. 10, 1936 to the late Orville and Carrie (Jenkins) Mercer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Jo Mercer; five brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Marjorie “Marty” Mercer; a granddaughter, Arianna “Baby Girl”; a niece, Lois Ann Robinson; a nephew, Donny “Bub” (Whitney) Robinson and their children, Tyler and Rilley; and close friends, Neal (Crystal) Manion, Jr. A sister, Mary Balwin also survives.
George was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in Vietnam and a member of the Jackson V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, listening to religious music and hosting bean dinners.
Funeral services will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10 with Pastor Maurice Napper officiating. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery in Scioto Township. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 9 from 4 to 8 p.m.
