George F. Bapst Sr.

George F. Bapst Sr., age 89, of Jackson, Ohio passed away January 9th, 2018 at Jenkins Community Care Center in the company of his loving wife of 62 years, Connie (Hatten) Bapst. George was born in Beaver, Ohio to the late Philip Bapst and Margaret (Offenbaker) Bapst on April 15th, 1928. George was a dedicated family man to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons: George Bapst Jr. and Brian (Kathy) Bapst; grandchildren: Aaron (Mindy) Bapst, Kevin (Jill) Bapst, Joseph Bapst, and Jason Bapst; and two great-grandchildren: Emma Bapst and Jorja Bapst.

George retired from the New River Electric Company in Roanoke, VA where he started in 1953 as their first employee. He worked his way through the company as a lineman, foreman, superintendent, and supervisor throughout the mid-west and southern states. After his retirement, George and Connie spent the winter months at their home in Florida and the summer months doing the things he loved, restoring and showing his vintage automobiles and spending time with his grandchildren, watching them race go-karts and cars. George was a devoted Christian and active member of the Methodist Church in Beaver, Ohio.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 12th, 2017 from 11-1pm at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1pm at the funeral home with Rev. Herman Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
