Frederick Lamar Stiffler

Frederick Lamar Stiffler, age 67, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018 at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born March 29, 1951 in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Delmar F. and Helen (Miller) Stiffler.

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Stiffler; his brother, Jerry M. Stiffler; his brother-in-law, Robert Hammerstein; his sister-in-law, Carol Stiffler and his beloved canine companion, Ziggy.

Fred grew up on a farm in the Fourmile Community, attended grade school at Franklin Local School, and was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as hospital corpsman and later as a Navy Recruiter. After leaving the Navy, Fred graduated from Rio Grande University and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was employed by Marathon Oil Co. and retired in 2012 after 17 years of service. Fred was employed as a funeral director and embalmer at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home in Jackson, Ohio.

He is survived by his son, Christopher Stiffler of Alpharetta, Georgia; his brother, Delmar H. Stiffler of Columbus, Ohio; two very devoted sisters, Christine (Roger) Hill of Mt. Vernon, Ohio and Donna Hammerstein of Beaver, Ohio; his stepdaughters, Tonya Stumbo of Dayton, Ohio and Carla (Sean) Taylor of Jackson, Ohio; step-grandchildren: Jessica, Nathan and Ali; one step great-granddaughter, Aaliyah and several nieces and nephews.
