Fred E. Parks, Sr.

Fred E. Parks, Sr., age 86, of Jackson, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jackson County on April 30, 1932 to the late Orville and Nellie (Rodgers) Parks.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet (Hutton) Parks; brothers: Charlie, Don, Joe and Thomas Parks; a sister, Delores Parks; and a son-in-law, Eugene Webb.

Fred is survived by his children: Ed Parks, Brenda Webb and Beverly (Allen) Byler; grandchildren: Kelli (Jason) Crabtree, Ron Carter III, April Carter, Amy (Shawn) Rasp, Chad (Rachel) Byler, and Brandy (Steve) Simpkins. Also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brothers; Jack and Butch Parks; and sisters: Judy Sickles and Leona Wallin, along with many nieces and nephews.

Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. After leaving the service he worked in nursing for the Veterans Administration. He was a member of the Savageville Community Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Mayhew-Brown Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, with Pastor Jorge Anido officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memory Gardens with military honors provided by Jackson Chapter 45 of the Disabled American Veterans.
