Fred served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge he worked as a carman and retired from DT&I in Jackson and later in life owned Riegel’s Marathon Service Station that was located on Broadway across from the Memorial Building. After selling the service station, Fred held the position of Franklin Township Trustee for many years. In his retirement years he enjoyed camping and taking trips with his friends. He enjoyed woodworking, motorcycles and planting a garden every year. But his most cherished memories would be spending time playing cards, games and having cookouts with all his family and he always loved having the grandchildren spend the night and cooking breakfast for them the next morning. Fred was loved by his friends and family and will be missed very much.
