Damon L. Hill

Damon L. Hill, age 80, of Wellston, passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2018 at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston. He was born Sept. 16, 1938 in Wellston, Ohio, son of the late Francis “Frank” Hill and Nancy Elizabeth “Nannie” Dickerson Hill.

Damon was a 1956 graduate of Wellston High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force, who served during the Korean Conflict. For many years, Damon was a self-employed mason and contractor and also served as a police officer for the City of Wellston. Damon retired from the State of Ohio, having been employed as the grounds keeper for Lake Alma State Park. Damon was a born-again Christian who, when his health permitted, attended Grace Baptist Fellowship Church in Wellston. His love for God was unending.

Throughout his life, Damon also had a love for music. In years past, he was the lead singer with the band, H.D. Express. He loved riding motorcycles, spending time with his family, and taking care of all seven of his fur babies.

Damon is survived by his children, Fawn Hill (Aaron Gill), “Cora, Cora, Cora” (Garry Hall), Lee Hill (Sierra Shannon), Kelly Franco, Missy Thacker, Damon Hill II (Shannon), Tami Fox (Patrick Smith), Lisa Rosetta (Craig), Tommy Tucker (Jenni), Bobby Hill, Casey Good, Larry Queen, Michael Cantrell, and Melinda Cantrell-Matteson; brothers, Larry Hill (Carol), Marion Hill (Donna), and Frankie Hill (Lynn); sister, Virginia Specht; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Damon was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Hill; children, Bobbie Jo Hill, Shane Hill, Billy Gilliland, Mandy Hill, and Rona Hill; grandson, Michael Dupre; great-grandson, Keon Hill; and siblings, Wilmont May, Harrison William May, Cloyce May, Datha Pinkus, Betty Hayburn and Gene Hill.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
