Clyde Smith

Clyde Smith, age 69, of Wellston, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born Feb. 20, 1947 in Knott County, Kentucky, son of the late Edgar Smith and Nancy Lee Triplett Smith.

Clyde was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam era. Following his military service, Clyde went on to become an operating engineer with Local Union #18. As an avid lover of motorsports, Clyde loved to rebuild engines and transmissions, especially while working alongside his lifelong friend, Paul Stewart. He will be sorrowfully missed by all of his family and friends.

Clyde was the cherished father of Jody Wilkett of Wellston, Sheree Cordle of Portsmouth and Wayne Smith (Tammy) of Oak Hill. He is also survived by his grandsons, Cody Wilkett, Austin Wilkett and Lucas Smith; great-grandson, Hayden Downing; siblings, Dema Rodgers, Joyce Stapleton, Inas Susler, Linda Cook and Ellen Blankenship (Russ), along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his sweetheart and wife, Marilyn K. Phillips Smith in 2006; brother, Paul Smith and infant sister, Lucille.

Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Butch Cooper officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
