Carl E. “Gene” Armstrong

Carl E. “Gene” Armstrong, 74, of Jackson and formerly of Charleston, South Carolina and Georgetown, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 at Heartland of Jackson. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina on Jan. 17, 1944 to the late Eugene and Mary (Clemmons) Armstrong. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas and a sister, Dolores.

He is survived by his sons: Carl Edward Armstrong (Lea) and Chris A. Armstrong (Laura), and grandchildren: Faith, Nicholas, Bethany, Carmella and Jonah, along with a great-grandchild, Payton. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Michael, Jerry, John, Glen, Patricia and Elaine.

Carl was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired as the fire chief of Georgetown County Fire Department in Georgetown, South Carolina. He enjoyed reading western novels and western movies. He also enjoyed fishing and sport shooting. He was an avid BBQ’er, and at one time competed on the pro-am BBQ circuit.

A memorial service and reception will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Extension Office, 17 Standpipe Road, Jackson, Ohio 45640.
