Betty S. Souders

Betty A. Souders, age 91, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at the Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, Ohio. She was born September 19, 1923 in Coalton, Ohio to the late Turley I. Dixon and Stella M. Richards Dixon.

Betty was a 1942 graduate of Coalton High School. During World War II, Betty was employed as an inspector by the American Fireworks Company, which made ammunition for the war. She was later employed at Hercules Trouser Company, Sprinkles Cleaners and served as a meter maid for the city of Wellston. Betty also worked at Ralston Purina, which was known as Jeno’s when she retired. She was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, and the Wellston Senior Citizens, where she always looked forward to their social gatherings.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Kenneth Michael Souders (Connie) of Toledo and Terry Jay Souders (Karen) of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Christen Souders, Katie Souders, Kevin Souders and Jayson Souders; two sisters, Eloise Stewart Clay of Jackson and Arthella Tipton of Jackson; niece, Dixie Culver of Greensboro, NC; and sister-in-law, Ruth Essman of Wellston.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth E. Souders, in 2012; brother, Elmer “Buddy” Dixon, and sister, Helen Gallivan.

Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with Pastor Leland Brehm officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
