Betty J. Wood

Betty J. Wood, age 89, of Wellston, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014, at her home. She was born July 7, 1924 in Coalton, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Jessie Brown Claar. 

Betty, along with her husband, was the former owner and operator of Suzie Q’s Restaurant and Penn Restaurant in Wellston, as well as being a former waitress at Norris Restaurant and Giovanni’s in Wellston. Betty was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation in Jackson. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching her evening T.V. shows. 

Betty is survived by her daughters, Sandra Wilbur Musick (Larry) of Wellston, Faye McCartney (Larry) of Jackson, Susie Wood Campbell (Johnny) of Gallipolis Ferry, WV and Dena Wood Shotts of Jackson; as well as 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. 

Besides her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Allan “Woody” Wood in 1964; infant son, Isaac Wood; son, Tommy Wood; special son-in-law, Larry Wilbur; great-granddaughter, Jennifer Wilbur; sister, Donna Fay “Dot” Walton and brothers, Frank Claar, Sam Claar and Raymond Brown. 

Calling hours will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Elder Harry Sutcliff officiating.
