Beatrice Kay Holtz Lucas

Beatrice Kay Holtz Lucas, age 76, of Wellston, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio.  She was born Jan. 6, 1943 in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Raymond John Holtz and Elsie Beatrice Straten Holtz. 

Kay was a 1960 graduate of Wellston High School.  She was a loving wife and mother, who worked as a nurse’s aide for several years, as well as an employee of Fruth Pharmacy in Wellston.  Kay was a licensed manicurist and a former writer for The Wellston Sentry.  She was a member of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, V.F.W. Post 9092, and Past President and member of American Legion Post 371 Ladies Auxiliary, all the while being Elvis Presley’s #1 fan.  Kay always looked forward to, and enjoyed participating in, the Wellston Rotary Minstrel Show every year. 

She is survived by her children, Dr. Joy Lucas of Saratoga Springs, New York and Heber Jay Lucas, Jr. of Jeanette, Pennsylvania; sister, Carrie Powell (Norman) of McArthur; and her longtime best friend, Sudelle Young of Wellston. 

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Heber J. Lucas, Sr. in 1993; brothers, Danny Holtz and Carl Holtz; and sister, Beulah Morrow. 

Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston, where Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m.  Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wellston with Father Nic Ventura officiating.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
