Alan C. Arthur, age 62, of Wellston, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at his home. He was born April 9, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Cecil S. Arthur and Laura M. Coyle Arthur.

Alan graduated from Wellston High School in the Class of 1973 and then continued his education by attending Ohio University and Penn State School of Mining. Following in his parents’ footsteps, Alan was a former owner of Sands Hill Coal Co., Inc., Sands Hill Hauling Co., Sands Hill Waste Services and Clinton Stone. In his spare time, Alan enjoyed traveling, hunting, spectator sports, spending time with his family and friends, and serving his community, as well as coaching his boys in sports. He was a lifetime member of Hope United Methodist Church and a founding member of the Big “W” Football Club.

Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Michael Heflin-Arthur; sons, Austin Arthur of Columbus, Jack Arthur (Erika) of New Albany and Grant Arthur (Devon Nason) of Grandview; step-son, Cory Heflin of Morgantown, WV; granddaughter, Isabella; sisters, Brenda Weber of Jackson and Bonny Huffman (Jack) of Wellston; nieces, Sasha Kuntz (Steve) of Haymarket, VA, Shalyn Parsell (Brian) of Carroll, Erin Huffman-Richard (Cory) of Dublin and Julie Jenkins (Vince) of New Albany; nephews, Sean Weber of New York, NY and Shannon Weber (Stephanie) of Wellston, along with several great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of friends.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home with John Pelletier, CLP officiating. Burial will follow in the Ridgewood Cemetery.
