Mildred “Millie” (Griffiths) Sandlin

Mildred “Millie” (Griffiths) Sandlin, age 99, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Friday, March 20, 2015 at Holzer Health Systems of Gallipolis. She was born January 3, 1916 in the Welsh community of Moriah to the late Samuel R. and Martha (Williams) Griffiths. She married John Sandlin September 28, 1944. John passed away January 16, 1994.

She was a member of Moriah Church as well as an associate member of Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting at the senior citizens art class and was an avid crocheter. She also enjoyed working on the computer and going to family dinners. She and her husband, John loved traveling, boating, and music. She spent grades 1 thru 8 at Moriah in a one-room school house. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1934.

She is survived by niece, Joan (Jones) Callahan of Jackson, Ohio; great-nieces, Peggy (Griffiths) Miller of Oak Hill, Ohio and Jill Griffiths of Huntington, West Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, great-great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great-great-nieces and nephews all of which she considered as her family and loved them dearly.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, David Griffiths, Jack Griffiths, William Griffiths, Daniel Griffiths, Sarah (Griffiths) Jones, and Mary Griffiths.

Friends may call at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson on Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.A service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dave Roach and Diaconal Minister Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow at Moriah Cemetery.
