Jennie Mae (Lewis) Myers, age 93, passed away in her sleep at her home in Jackson Thursday night, January 22, 2015 with her son Bill with her. She was born at her home in Thurman, on Centerpoint Rd. on November 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Zelma (Alban) Lewis.
She is survived by her children, Nancy (James) Williams, of Wheelersburg, and Bill Myers, of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Jill (Todd) Preston, of Portsmouth, Dr. Julie (Jon) Lange, of Columbus, Amy (Branden) McGhee, of Jackson; great-grandchildren, Tanner Preston, Meghan McGhee, Elliott Lange, Brynlee McGhee, and Sylvia Lange; siblings, Irene Lloyd, of Jackson, Mary Thornton, of Jackson, Winnie Ghearing, of Circleville, Ohio and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John W. Myers who passed away in 1985; a sister, Sarah Lane, and a brother, Edward Lewis.
Jennie was a longtime former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Rio Grande, she was currently a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson. She volunteered at the Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis for 14 years and also volunteered for numerous church functions. She was a very devoted Christian, she was active in the Welsh Community, she was well-known in the area as an accomplished seamstress, flower gardener, and was well known for helping out with whatever she could in the community. She played the violin and was a star basketball player at the Centerville School. She completed a two-year course at Rio Grande College with a commerce degree in June 1941.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson with Diaconal Minister Janie Karl officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Rio Grande, Ohio. Friends may call Monday, January 26, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
