Mike Lawhead, age 65, of McArthur, passed away Friday, December 12, 2014, at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born July 11, 1949 in Athens, Ohio, to the late Alvin S. Lawhead and Vera G. Sowers Lawhead. Mike was a 1967 graduate of Vinton County High School, where he set a track record in shot put by making a throw of 48 feet, 6 1/2 inches. He was a veteran of the Unites States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of, and retired from, Remy’s Mobile Homes in Allensville.
Mike was an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan, an expert pumpkin grower and he enjoyed wood crafting and mushroom hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Castor Lawhead; children, Michael Lawhead of McArthur, Mark Lawhead of Hamden, Mandy McClain of Hamden and Vera McKenzie of Hamden; grandchildren, Levi Lawhead, Lucas Lawhead, Jacob Lawhead, Katrina Lawhead, Gage Lawhead, Nathaniel Lawhead, Cody Sexton and Julie McKibben; great-granddaughter, Mariah; brothers and sisters, Patricia LeMaster of Chillicothe, Karen Remy of Allensville, Jane Lawhead of McArthur, Ed Lawhead of Waynesburg, Oh., Susan Wickline of Jackson and Thomas Lawhead of Columbus, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, Mike was preceded in death by 1 grandson.
