Gladys Adkins

Gladys Adkins, age 93, of Oak Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Heartland of Jackson. She was born February 7, 1921 in Charlie, Kentucky to the late Robert H. and Emma H. (Swann) Miller.

She was a long time member of Oak Hill Freewill Baptist Church. Her love and compassion was always overflowing for her family and the many residents of Heartland.

She is survived by her children, Sue (Paul) Pettit, Chuck (Connie) Metzler, Tim (Bonnie) Metzler; step-daughter, Joyce Slone; grandchildren, David (Jane) Pettit, Darla (Ed)Johnson, Mike (Bev) Pettit, Bryan (Missi) Pettit, Crystal (Herman) Shephard, Levi (Angie) Pettit, Aaron (Kristen) Metzler, Steve (Tiffany) Metzler, Amy (Kevin) Kiser; several step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren, Jason Pettit, Todd (Jennifer) Pettit, Tim (Cindy) Campbell, Rebekah (Jason) Adkins, Susan (Brandon) Conley, Carrie Pettit, Maranda Pettit, Mariah Pettit, Brady Shephard, Abigail Shephard, Dekota Metzler, Karlee (Matt) Brozek, Emilee Metzler, Nick Metzler, Zachary Metzler, Gregory Metzler; several step-great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren, Lyam Pettit, Kynnedy Metzler; several step-great –great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; siblings, Leslie Miller, C.U. Miller, Goldie Johnson, and Phoebe Coffee; and her life-long friend, Lil Lewis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Wayne Metzler and David Adkins.

Friends may call at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill on Friday, October 24, from 4-8 p.m. A service will be held on Saturday, October 25, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Roy McCarty officiating. Burial will follow at C.M. Cemetery.
