James A. “Poog” Long

James A. “Poog” Long, age 58, of Wellston, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born April 15, 1956 in Wellston, to the late Thomas A. Long and Louise M. Watson Long. Jim was a 1974 graduate of Wellston High School and was a former truck driver. He was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed hunting and watching football.

Jim is survived by is son, Chris Long of Wellston; step-son, Tony Phillips of Coalton; 3 grandchildren, Kaysia, Evan and Peyton Long; 2 step-grandchildren, Matt and Rebecca Phillips; 4 brothers, Tom Long (Trish) of West Union, Bob Long (Carol) of Lancaster, Gary Long (Lisa) of McArthur and Scott Long of Wellston; 4 sisters, Sue Swackhammer of Hamden, Kathy Craft (Don) of Wellston, Linda Currier (Larry) of Chillicothe and Nancy Thornsberry (Matt) of Chillicothe, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

At Jim’s request, his body was cremated.

In keeping with his wishes, family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Salem Cemetery in Wellston. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be given to the McWilliams Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses. Services are under the direction of the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston.
